Dear Enke,

“To protect each victim, we must protect them all and do it together. Together the message is louder, together the message is stronger”. These are the poignant words of one of the foremost legal figures in the world, Fatou Bensouda, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC).I have just left the edit suite and have shared it on Twitter, but I wanted to personally reach out to you with this incredible video message Ms Bensouda recorded for Peace One Day during my recent visit to the ICC in The Hague.

Representing the leading organisations working to reduce domestic and gender based violence around the world, we hope this powerful piece of footage can boost your efforts to tackle these issues on Peace Day.

These are issues that affect millions of lives around the world daily. A recent report released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) exposed the alarming levels of gender based and domestic violence around the world: more than a third of all women (35.6%) worldwide will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. We can all play a part in tackling this. As Fatou Bensouda says, “Peace One Day offers a platform, a great platform to call to an end violence against women in your homes, your communities and in battlefields; the violence must stop.”

If Fatou Bensouda’s message resonates with your aims, please feel free to share these links with your networks and those closest to you. Together we can continue to build a global community committed to reducing domestic violence on Peace Day 21 September.
