On 28th March 2012, the Association for the Development of Mongolian Women in Europe’s (ADMWE) board member, Azjargal Ulziitogtokh organised the opening ceremony of the professional photographer Tom Gildon’s photo exhibition named “XOT- City in transition”, which was held at the EBRD’s London headquarters.

The exhibition which attracted EBRD staff and distinguished members of the Mongolian community including his Excellency Mr Bulgaa Altangerel, the Mongolian Ambassador to UK, welcoming staff and guests to the reception, said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank EBRD for organising the third exhibition dedicated to Mongolia and EBRD’s First Vice President Varel Freeman, who gave us this opportunity. Photography is a very unique art that can show real life. This photo exhibition is not only about Ulaanbaatar, it is an introduction and promotion of Mongolia to the wider public. I would like to congratulate the photographer Tom Gildon and the banker of EBRD Azjargal who has organised this wonderful exhibition.” ADMWE’s is proud to have Azjargal Ulziitogtokh as one of the Board Members, who currently works in EBRD as the principal banker.

In this exhibition, photographer Tom Gildon shared his fascinating work which was taken during his month long visit to Nomadic Mongolia’s capital city Ulaanbaatar in August 2011.

With a population of just over 1 million, Ulaanbaatar city is growing at a rapid pace due to the combination of economic development and a shift from a traditional nomadic culture to an urbanisation. During his months long visit to UB Tom Gildon illustrated through his lens the capital’s rapid economic development and the variety of buildings that are either a legacy of the Soviet era infrastructure or a response to the new economy in a very fascinating way.

During the photo exhibition guests were entertained by the spherical sounds of a traditional fiddle player, Odgerel and performance of the singer, Ganjargal..
